For what (my spirit) wants to do (my flesh and soul) do not do, but what (my spirit) hates (my flesh and soul) does. 16 And if (my flesh and soul) do what (my flesh and soul) do not want to do, (my spirit) agrees that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer (my spirit) who does it, but it is sin living in my (flesh and soul). 18 For (my spirit) knows that good itself does not dwell in (my flesh and soul), that is, in my sinful nature. For (my spirit) has the desire to do what is good, but (my flesh and soul) cannot carry it out. 19 For (my flesh and soul) do not do the good (my spirit) wants to do, but the evil (my spirit) does not want to do—this (my flesh and soul) keep on doing. 20 Now if (my flesh and soul) do what (my spirit) does not want to do, it is no longer (my spirit) who do it, but it is sin living in (my flesh and soul) that does it. 21 So I find this law at work: Although (my spirit) wants to do good, evil is right there with (my flesh and soul). 22 For in my (spirit) I delight in God’s law; 23 but (my spirit) sees another law at work in (my flesh and soul), waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within (my flesh and soul). 24 What a wretched man is (my flesh and soul)! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself (my spirit) am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

Aunque (mi espiritu desea) hacer lo bueno, (mi carne y alma no son) capaz de hacerlo. 19 De hecho, (mi carne y mi alma no hace) el bien que (mi espiritu quiere hacer), sino el mal que (mi espiritu no quiere hacer). 20 Y si (mi carne y mi alma hace) lo que no quiero, ya no (es mi espiritu) quien lo hace, sino el pecado que habita en (mí carne y mi alma). 21 Así que descubro esta ley: que cuando (mi espiritu quiere) hacer el bien, me acompaña el mal (dentro de mi carne y mi alma). 22 Porque en lo íntimo de mi ser(, es decir, en mi espiritu) me deleito en la Ley de Dios; 23 pero (mi espiritu se da) cuenta de que (en mi carne y mi alma) hay otra ley, que es la ley del pecado. Esta ley lucha contra lo que (mi espiritu considera) bueno, y tiene (a mi carne y mi espiritu) cautivo. 24¡(Mi carne y mi alma es) un pobre miserable! ¿Quién me librará de (mi carne y mi alma que es) sujeto a la muerte?25 ¡Gracias a Dios por medio de Jesucristo nuestro Señor me libra! En conclusión, con (mi espiritu) yo mismo me someto a la Ley de Dios, pero mi (naturalesa pecaminosa) está sujeta a la ley del pecado.
